ADANA, Türkiye (AA) - The unemployment rate in the euro area was at 6.4% in August, down from 6.6% in August 2023, Eurostat revealed on Wednesday.
The rate was at 5.9% in the EU side, down from 6% in a year ago, the 27-member bloc's statistical office announced.
Some 13.03 million persons in the EU, of whom 10.92 million in the euro area, were unemployed in August 2024.
Compared with July 2024, unemployment decreased by 108,000 in the EU and by 94,000 in the euro area while it decreased by 142,000 in the EU and by 233,000 in the euro area versus August 2023.
Highest unemployment rate was seen in Spain with 11.3%, and lowest was in the Czech Republic with 2.6%.
As of August 2024, the youth unemployment rate, for ages under 25, was at 14.1% in the euro area and 14.3% in the EU; both posted declines.
