UPDATES WITH STATEMENT OF POLICE SPOKESMAN; EDITS THROUHGOUT
BERLIN (AA) - One person was killed and several others injured when a car drove into pedestrians in Berlin’s city center on Wednesday.
“A man has driven his car into a group of people. It is not yet clear whether it was an accident or an intentional act,” German police said on Twitter.
The driver was arrested soon after the incident. The car ended up crashing into a shop window.
Police spokesman Thilo Cablitz told reporters that investigators were trying to figure out whether the man deliberately drove his car into a group of pedestrians or it was an accident due to a sudden medical emergency.
Public broadcaster RBB said at least eight people were injured, some of them seriously, and were shifted to hospitals.
