ISTANBUL (AA) - At least one person was killed and 125 others were injured on Thursday after two trams collided in Russia’s Kemerovo region.

"As of 20:00 (1300GMT), 21 people remain in Kuzbass hospitals. The condition of four is assessed as serious, the rest (are) of moderate and mild severity," Kemerovo Governor Ilya Seredyuk said on Telegram.

He said doctors sent 101 injured for outpatient treatment, while three others are being examined and could be hospitalized.

Earlier in the day, Seredyuk said at least three victims were in serious condition and two others in intensive care.

Kemerovo Mayor Dmitry Anisimov later wrote on Telegram that one of those being treated died, adding that he would meet relatives of the deceased and provide support to the family.

The Investigative Committee said it opened a criminal case after the incident that took place at 7.30 a.m. (0030GMT).
