DHAKA, Bangladesh (AA) – At least 15 people were killed and dozens of others injured when two trains collided in Bangladesh on Monday, an official told Anadolu.

Mohammad Enamul Haque, deputy director of fire service of Kishoreganj district, confirmed the death toll from the crash of a container train with a passenger train in central Bhairab town of Kishoreganj district.

Mirza Mohmmad Mukta, an official of railway police in Bhairab, told Anadolu that the container train, which was heading to southeastern Chattogram district, collided with the Dhaka-bound Egarosindhur Express at the railway junction outer point in Bhairab at around 4 p.m. (1000GMT).

The crash left some coaches of the passenger train overturned and some passengers got stuck inside the commuter train.

“Many have been injured in the damaged coaches. We, railway police, fire service, local administration, with the help of locals, are sending injured passengers to local hospitals. Rescue operation is going on while there are fears that the death toll may increase,” he added.
