ANKARA (AA) – The death toll from a building fire in eastern China rose to 39 as rescue operations ended on Wednesday evening, state media reported.
The fire broke out at around 3 pm local time (0700GMT) at a street shop in the city of Xinyu in the Jiangxi Province, Beijing-based Xinhua News reported, citing local fire response officials.
Firefighters arrived on the spot soon after the blaze began and started working to extinguish the flames. No further details, including a possible cause of the fire, were provided.
This is the second fire incident In China involving casualties in less than a week.
Last Saturday, at least 13 people were killed when a fire broke out in a school dormitory in the central Henan Province.
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday also urged efforts to curb recurrences of various accidents to better protect people's lives, property, and social stability.
