ANKARA (AA) – Two Israelis were injured in a stabbing attack in occupied East Jerusalem on Wednesday, according to the police.
In a statement, the police said the attack took place near Jaffa Gate in East Jerusalem’s Old City, without providing any further details.
It said the suspected attacker attempted to flee the scene but was arrested after a short chase.
Medics said one of the injured was in serious condition, while the other was hurt slightly.
According to Israeli media, the attacker was a 17-year-old resident of East Jerusalem who used a cleaver during the attack.
Tensions have been running high across the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, in recent months amid repeated Israeli raids into Palestinian towns.
At least 35 Israelis have been killed in Palestinian attacks this year, the highest death toll since 2005, according to Israeli figures. More than 200 Palestinians have also been killed by Israeli fire during the same period, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.
