ANKARA (AA) - A police officer was accidentally shot during a security control in capital Ankara and was pronounced dead, the province’s police department said in a statement.
The incident came after the police officer made the suspected man get off a passenger bus, which was en route to Istanbul from southeastern Siirt province, during a security control.
The statement said the police officer, whose name is not disclosed, was shot and martyred after a warning fire was opened during the police hunt.
Ankara Governor Ercan Topaca said that the suspect, who was carrying some amount of drugs in his suitcase, was caught by the police shortly after the incident.
However, Topaca added that there was no terror connection found.
