ANKARA (AA) - At least 24 people were killed and over two dozen injured after a section of an expressway in south China's Guangdong Province caved in early Wednesday morning, state media reported citing local authorities.
The cave-in happened around 2:10 a.m. (local time) on a section of the Meizhou-Dabu Expressway in the city of Meizhou, causing at least 20 vehicles to plunge, Beijing-based Xinhua News reported.
Some 30 people are receiving hospital treatment, with none in life-threatening condition, according to the local officials.
Aerial images showed one side of the expressway caved in, causing vehicles to roll down a slope.
The accident did not involve any large vehicles or vehicles transporting hazardous chemicals.
The expressway has been closed, and the cause of the accident is being probed.
