ANKARA (AA) – British King Charles III on Friday held his first audience with the prime minister at Buckingham Palace.
The king arrived in London earlier with his wife Camilla, the queen consort, after leaving Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where his mother Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday.
Liz Truss arrived at Buckingham Palace for an audience with the monarch for the first time as the prime minister. On Tuesday, Truss was formally asked by the late queen at Balmoral Castle to form a government.
The king traveled to Buckingham Palace and greeted the crowd at the palace gates, upon arriving in London.
The crowd cheered “God save The King” as Charles shook the hands of members of the public.
Charles will later address the nation for the first time as the king and head of state.
Elizabeth, Britain's longest-serving monarch, died at the age of 96, Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday.
She has been succeeded by her son Charles, who left London as the prince of Wales and returned as the king.
