ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index was down 4.50% to close Wednesday at 1.467,00 points.
Starting the day at 1,536.07 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 69.11 points over Tuesday's close of 1,536.11 points.
During the day, the index hovered between 1,469.27 and 1,541.01 points.
A total of four stocks on the index rose, while 96 fell compared to Tuesday's close.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.1 trillion Turkish liras ($149 billion) by Tuesday's close, with a daily trading volume of 34.3 billion Turkish liras (nearly $4.7 billion).
The highest trading volumes were posted by real estate investment trust Emlak Konut, private lender Garanti, and energy company Odas Elektrik.
Cardboard producer Kartonsan was the best performer, with its shares up 3.21%, while the stocks of fertilizer producer Bagfas dropped the most, 10%.
The price of one ounce of gold was $1.841,15 by market close, down from $1.851,91 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $55.81 per barrel as of 6.00 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Wednesday.
