BIST 100 loses more than 1,400 points compared to Wednesday's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index dropped by 1.37% to close Thursday at 102,044.99 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 103,676.26 points. As of closing, it lost 1,412.27 points from Wednesday's close of 103,457.26 points.

The benchmark index, which reached over 104,000 points, saw the deep level of 101,604.55 points during Thursday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 679.4 billion Turkish liras ($118.9 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 9.3 billion Turkish liras ($1.6 billion).

On the fourth transaction day of the week, 30 stocks on the index rose, 65 were down, and five were flat compared to the previous close.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by Garanti, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and state lender Halkbank.

The day's best performer was AVOD Gida -- active in the food industry --, with its shares up 6.21%, while stocks of electrical company Gersan dropped most, down 4.66%.

The Central Bank of Turkey (CBRT) lowered its one-week repo rate 425 basis points to 19.75%, from 24%, on Thursday.

After the interest rate decision of the CBRT, Turkish lira lost value and regained it against foreign currencies.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,432.10 by market close, up from $1,425.00 at the previous close, according to Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets data.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $64.00 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Thursday.
