BEIRUT (AA) - The Lebanese Hezbollah group said Tuesday that two of its fighters had been killed in cross-border clashes with Israel.

In a statement, the group identified the slain fighters as Ali Hussein Wizani (Ali Al-Akbar) and Yasser Nimer Qarnabish, without providing any details about the circumstances of their death.

Lebanese channel LBC said Qarnabish, 54, a former escort for Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on his car on the Damascus-Beirut highway.

The new fatalities brought the number of Hezbollah fighters killed in clashes with Israeli forces to 366 since Oct. 8, 2023, according to an Anadolu tally.

The Israeli army said early Tuesday that it had hit military targets belonging to Hezbollah in southern and eastern Lebanon.

Tensions have risen along Lebanon's border with Israel amid cross-border attacks between Hezbollah and Israeli forces as Tel Aviv pressed ahead with its deadly offensive on the Gaza Strip, which has killed more than 38,200 people since last October following a Hamas attack.
