ANKARA (AA) – Palestinian group Fatah said Wednesday that one of its military commanders was killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon.

The group’s armed wing, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, said Khalil al-Makdah was killed in the coastal city of Sidon “while performing his duty in supporting the Palestinian people and resistance.”

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said al-Makdah was killed when an Israeli drone struck his car in Villas area in Sidon.

The Israeli army confirmed assassinating al-Makdah in an airstrike in Sidon.

A military statement claimed al-Makdah and his brother Munir have been working with Hezbollah and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for years to carry out attacks against Israel.

The army published footage of its airstrike that killed the Fatah commander.

Fatah group is headed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
