JERUSALEM (AA) – An Israeli was killed and eight others were injured Thursday morning in a shooting incident near the Maale Adumim settlement east of occupied East Jerusalem.
Israeli police said three Palestinians opened fire on vehicles near the settlement. The three were shot dead by Israeli settlers.
Israeli public broadcaster KAN said the attackers took advantage of a traffic jam in the area and opened fire on Israeli cars.
The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that two Palestinian brothers were killed, while a third was injured near the town of Al-Eizariya near East Jerusalem.
It identified the two as Mohammad Zawahra, 26, and his brother Kazem Zawahra, 31. The injured Palestinian was identified as Ahmed Azzam Al-Wahsh.
Thursday’s shooting attack came amid Israel’s ongoing devastating war on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, along with intensified incursions, arrests, and killings in the occupied West Bank.
More than 29,800 Palestinians have since been killed and nearly 75,000 others injured in both the Gaza Strip and West Bank, while nearly 1,200 Israelis are believed to have been killed.
Israel occupied East Jerusalem during the 1967 Arab-Israeli War. It annexed the entire city in 1980, in a move never recognized by the international community.
