LONDON, The suspect who attempted to set fire to a synagogue was a "wanted" person, France’s interior minister said Friday.
French police shot and killed a man who was trying to set fire to a synagogue in the northwestern city of Rouen, Gerald Darmanin announced earlier.
The man, who was armed with a knife, according to local reports, tried to start a fire at the synagogue before police were called to the scene at 6.45 a.m. local time (0545GMT).
He was on the list of “wanted persons” and in the process of being expelled, Darmanin also said.
Rouen Mayor Nicolas Mayer-Rossignaol said there were no other victims of the incident.
