UPDATES WITH RISE IN DEATH TOLL; CHANGES HEADLINE

NEW DELHI (AA) – At least 87 people were killed during a stampede at a religious event in Uttar Pradesh, India on Tuesday, local media and officials said on Tuesday.
Local news channel NDTV said the deaths from the incident in the Hathras district includes women and children.
Police said an investigation is underway into the incident, and the deceased are being identified.
Yogi Adityanath, the state’s chief minister, said the loss of life is unfortunate, and expressed sympathy to the victims’ families.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said: "Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is providing all possible help to all the victims."
