BIST 100 index loses over 1,100 points versus Thursday's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index dropped by 1.09 percent to close at 102,937.14 points on Friday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 104,061.03 points and lost 1,137.08 points from Thursday's close of 104,074.22 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 102,648.13 and 104,371.52 points during Friday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 670 billion Turkish liras ($128.5 billion) by market close and the daily trading volume was 7.1 billion Turkish liras ($1.36 billion).

On the last transaction day of the week, 29 stocks on the index were on the rise, while 66 were on the decline, and five were flat compared to the previous close.

The top listed companies were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.3 billion), private lenders Garanti ($7.3 billion), and Akbank ($6.9 billion) by market value.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti, and iron/steel producer Kardemir.

Shares of the energy company Odas were the top gainers -- up 9.38 percent -- and conglomerate Ittifak Holding dropped most by 5.63 percent.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.2130 at close, up from Thursday's close of 5.1760.

The euro/lira rate increased at Friday's close; 5.9860 versus 6.1220 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 6.8120 Turkish liras, while the GBP/TRY rate was 6.8120 at close on Wednesday.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,322.00 by market close, down from $1,324.25 previous day.

The price of Brent crude oil stood at around $61.66 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Friday, versus $62.22 at previous close.
