ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index closed at 1,423.97 points on Wednesday, down 0.73% from the previous close.
Starting the day at 1,433.86 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 10.46 points from Tuesday's close of 1,434.43 points.
The index's lowest value during the day was 1,420.38 points, while its daily high was 1,440.90 points.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was almost 1.08 trillion Turkish liras ($128 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of around 12.7 billion Turkish liras ($1.5 billion).
A total of 25 stocks on the index rose, 74 fell, and one remained unchanged compared to Tuesday's close.
The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, energy giant Tupras, and iron and steel producer Kardemir.
Shares of energy company Aksa Enerji performed the best, up 6.75%, while stocks of conglomerate Ihlas Holding dropped the most, 3.39%.
One ounce of gold traded for $1,790.50 by market close, up from $1,789.85 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $75.51 per barrel with a 2.6% gain as of 6.58 p.m. local time (1558GMT).
