BIST 100 loses nearly 105 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed at 98,737.52 points on Tuesday, down 0.11% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 99,634.31 points. As of the daily close, it dropped 104.72 points from Monday's close of 98,842.24 points.

During the day, the index's lowest level was 97,880.46 points and the highest was 99,791.34 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 694 billion Turkish liras ($99 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 10.1 billion Turkish liras ($1.4 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 32 stocks on the index rose, 21 were down, and the remaining flat compared to Monday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti, iron/steel producer Kardemir and defense giant Aselsan.

Pharmaceutical manufacturer Deva was the best performer, with its shares up 9.95%, while shares of cement producer, Adana Cimento, dropped the most, losing 7.66%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,697.70 by market close, down from $1,706.50 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $30.38 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Tuesday.
