ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Tuesday at 1,536.11 points, down 0.27%.
Starting the day at 1,535.82 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 4.10 points over Monday's close of 1,540.21 points.
During the day, the index hovered between1,516.81 and 1,548.61 points -- 34 stocks on the index rose, 63 fell and three were flat compared to Monday's close.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.15 trillion Turkish liras ($157.4 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 31.9 billion Turkish liras (nearly $4.34 billion).
The highest trading volumes were posted by real estate investment trust Emlak Konut, private lender Garanti, and automotive company Karsan.
Conglomerate Dogan Holding was the best performer, with its shares up 5.76%, while the stocks of fertilizer producer Bagfas dropped the most, 7.44%.
The price of one ounce of gold was $1,856 by market close, down from $1,863.15 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $55.75 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Tuesday.
