ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Thursday at 1,394.36 points, down 1.38% day-on-day.
After starting the day at 1,416.99 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 19.50 points from Wednesday's close of 1,413.86 points.
During the day, the index's lowest value was 1,394.19 points, while its daily high was 1,432.62 points.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.08 trillion Turkish liras ($136 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 27.4 billion Turkish liras ($3.45 billion).
On the fourth transaction day of the week, 26 stocks on the index rose, 72 fell, and two were unchanged compared to Wednesday.
The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, polyester producer Sasa and gold miner Koza Altin.
Electronic appliances manufacturer Vestel was the best performer, with its shares up 8.48%, while stocks of cement producer Konya Cimento dropped the most, 8.02%.
The price of one ounce of gold was $1,727.00 by market close, down from $1,731.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $61.40 per barrel as of 6.10 p.m. local time (1510GMT) on Thursday.
