BIST 100 index loses almost 24 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Monday down 1.70% at 1,384.43 points.

After starting the week at 1,393.79 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index dropped 23.89 points from 1,408.32 points at Friday's close.

During the day, the index hovered between 1,368.58 and 1,401.65 points -- 31 stocks on the index rose and 69 fell, compared to Friday.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1 trillion Turkish liras ($133 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 31.1 billion Turkish liras ($4 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by state lender Industrial Development Bank (TSKB), national flag carrier Turkish Airlines and defense giant Aselsan.

Shares of Borusan Mannesmann, a prominent pipe manufacturer was the best performer, with its shares up 10.00%, while stocks of paper and carton producer Kartonsan dropped the most, losing 10.00%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,880.00 by market close, up from $1,877.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $50.40 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Monday.
