ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed at 1,382.58 points on Tuesday, down 0.72% from the previous close.
Starting the day at 1,394.72 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index fell 10.06 points from the previous close of 1,392.64 points.
The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,382.58 points, while its daily high was 1,399.90 points.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.04 trillion Turkish liras ($119.8 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 12.44 billion Turkish liras ($1.43 billion).
On the second transaction day of the week, 21 stocks on the index rose, 70 declined, and nine were flat compared to Monday’s close.
The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and iron and steel producer Eregli Demir Celik.
Automotive manufacturer Karsan was the best performer as its shares went up 3.69%, while stocks of electricity firm Esenboga Elektrik saw the sharpest drop of 4.97%.
The price of one ounce of gold was $1.795,50 per ounce by market close, up from $1,791.55 at Monday’s close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $74.79 per barrel as of 6:39 p.m. local time (1539GMT).
