ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index closed at 1,685.60 on Tuesday, down 0.99% from the previous day, ending nine consecutive days of gains.
Starting the day at 1,721.79 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 16.89 points from Monday's record high close of 1,702.49 points.
During Tuesday's trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 1,681.78 and 1,725.02 points, with 25 stocks on the index rising, 71 down, and four flat from the previous close.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was over 1.3 trillion Turkish liras ($133.5 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of more than 35.8 billion Turkish liras ($3.5 billion).
The highest trading volumes were posted by private lenders Garanti BBVA, Yapi Kredi and Akbank.
Shares of fertilizer company Gubre Fabrikalari performed the best, up 5.01%, while stocks of Turkish Industrial Development Bank dropped the most, 8.14%.
One ounce of gold traded for $1,870.55 by market close, up from $1,859.70 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil climbed 0.07% to $82.08 per barrel as of 6.00 p.m. local time (1500GMT).
