ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed at 1,402.35 points on Wednesday, down by 0.53% from the previous close.
Starting the day at 1,415.44 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 7.50 points from the previous close of 1,409.85 points.
During the day, the index's value hovered between 1,401.32 points and 1,419.77 points – 48 stocks on the index rose, 49 fell, and three remained flat compared to Tuesday.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 988 billion Turkish liras ($113.3 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 14.1 billion Turkish liras ($1.6 billion).
The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti BBVA and iron and real estate investment trust Emlak Konut.
Shares of cement producer Konya Cimento performed the best, rising 7.83%, while stocks of another cement producer Nuh Cimento suffered the worst, falling 3.47%.
One ounce of gold traded for $1,783.95 by market close, up from $1,775.30 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $75.61 per barrel as of 6.10 p.m. local time (1510GMT).
