ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed at 1,356.34 points on Wednesday, down by 1.12% from the previous close.
Starting the day at 1,374.94 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 15.33 points from the previous close of 1,371.67 points.
During the day, the index's value hovered between 1,352.23 points and 1,376.71 points – 23 stocks on the index rose, 72 fell, and five remained flat compared to Tuesday.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 954 billion Turkish liras ($110 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 13 billion Turkish liras ($1.5 billion).
The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and iron-steel producer Eregli Demir Celik.
Wheels manufacturer Jants was the best performer, with its shares up 5%, while stocks of agricultural insecticide producer Hektas saw the sharpest drop, down 4.54%.
One ounce of gold traded for $1,757.00 by market close, down from $1,769.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $74.5 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT).
