ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed at 1,410.87 points on Wednesday, down 1.85% from the previous close.
Starting the day at 1,438.92 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index lost 26.59 points from Tuesday's close of 1,437.46 points.
The index's lowest value during the day was 1,409.81 points, while its daily high was 1,439.48 points.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was 1.06 trillion Turkish liras ($123 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 16.4 billion Turkish liras ($1.9 billion).
A total of six stocks on the index rose, 90 fell, and four remained unchanged compared to Tuesday's close.
The highest trading volumes were posted by iron and steel producer Kardemir, private lender Garanti BBVA, and another iron and steel producer Eregli.
Borusan Yatirim ve Pazarlama A.S., which invests in companies operating in steel, distributorship, logistics, and technology sectors, was the best performer of the day with its shares up 6.2%. Stocks of telecommunication firm Netas did the worst by slipping 9.09%.
One ounce of gold traded for $1.740,80 by market close, up from $1.731,20 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $69.83 per barrel as of 6.23 p.m. local time (1523GMT).
