ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's BIST 100 went up 0.23 percent to close Wednesday at 101,971.29 points.
Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 101,990.37 points and gained 229.15 points from Tuesday's close of 101,742.14 points.
The benchmark stock index hovered between 101,618.10 and 102,542.96 points during Wednesday's trading.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 668.2 billion Turkish liras (some $126 billion) by market close and the daily trading volume was 6.1 billion Turkish liras (nearly $1.2 billion).
On Wednesday, 65 stocks on the index were on the rise, while 24 were on the decline, and eleven were flat compared to the previous close.
The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti, and telecommunication giant Turk Telekom.
Shares of interest-free lender Albaraka Turk (ALBRK) were the top gainers -- up 12.22 percent -- and stocks of casting manufacturer Cemas Dokum (CEMAS) dropped most by 3.61 percent.
The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.3060 at close, slightly up from 5.3030 at Tuesday's close.
The euro/lira rate rose to 6.0210 at Wednesday's close, versus 5.9960 at the previous close.
One British pound traded for 6.9340 Turkish liras, while the GBP/TRY rate was 6.8870 at close on Tuesday.
In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold stood at $1,342.00 by market close, up from $1,329.50 the previous day.
The price of Brent crude oil traded at $66.30 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Wednesday, with a day range of $65.64 to $66.66.
