ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index finished at 1,509.20 points on Tuesday, up 1.09% from the previous day, to close above the 1,500 level for the first time since March 19.
Starting the day at 1,501.17 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 16.27 points from Monday's close of 1,492.93 points.
The index's lowest value during the day was 1,501.17 points and its daily high was 1,512.74 points.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was over 1.19 trillion Turkish liras ($122.3 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of more than 21 billion Turkish liras ($2.22 billion).
A total of 77 stocks on the index rose, 18 fell, and five remained unchanged compared to Monday's close.
The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, fertilizer company Gubre Fabrikalari, and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.
Shares of pipe and tube producer Erbosan performed the best, rising 9.93%, while stocks of waste-to-energy firm Biotrend dropped the most, 6.25%.
One ounce of gold traded for $1,801.00 by market close, almost unchanged from $1,801.10 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil climbed 0.4% to $85.51 per barrel as of 6.31 p.m. local time (1531GMT).
