ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the week up 0.84 percent at 95,852.11 points with a total trading volume of around 4.9 billion Turkish liras ($1.04 billion).
Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index ended the day with a 794.87-point hike from the previous close of 95,057.23 points, while it started the day at 95,517.18 points.
The benchmark index hovered between 94,451.46 points and 96,186.76 points, while 50 stocks on the index were on the rise, 39 on the decline, and 11 flat compared to the previous close.
The total market value of listed shares on the BIST 100 was 613.6 billion Turkish liras ($129.1 billion) at the close, while the banking and holding sector indices gained 1.22 percent and 0.79 percent, respectively.
Among all sectors, the wholesale and retail trade sector index saw the best performance, up 3.18 percent, while the leasing factoring sector index fell the most, down 1.86 percent.
Stocks of automotive manufacturer Ford Otosan (FROTO) climbed the most, up 5.36 percent, while shares of cement producer Afyon Cimento (AFYON) did the worst, falling 6.14 percent.
The BIST 100's most-traded listed companies were national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti, defense company Aselsan, another private lender Akbank, and iron and steel producer Kardemir.
On Friday, the USD/TRY exchange fell to 4.6950 as of 5 p.m. local time (1400GMT), versus 4.7380 at Thursday's close.
The euro/lira exchange rate decreased to 5.4720 by market close, compared with 5.4950 at Thursday's close, and one British pound traded for 6.2310 Turkish liras, while the GBP/TRY rate was 6.2880 at the previous close.
The BIST Gold Exchange index rose 0.30 percent at the close. In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, one ounce of gold traded for $1,270.00 as of 4.30 p.m. local time (1330GMT) Friday, versus $1,266.25 at previous close.
As of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT), the price of Brent oil stood at $74.66 per barrel -- hovering between $73.04 and $75.32 during the day -- while it was around $66 at the beginning of this year.
