ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index climbed 0.51 percent to close at 91,156.88 points on Wednesday.
Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 91,031.58 points and gained 459.91 points from Tuesday's close of 90,696.97 points.
The benchmark index hovered between 90,591.41 and 91,419.37 points, during Wednesday's trading.
Total market value of the BIST 100 was around 590.5 billion Turkish liras ($108.8 billion) by market close, and the daily trade volume was 5.6 billion Turkish liras ($1.02 billion).
On Wednesday, 45 stocks on the index were on the rise, while 41 were on the decline, and 14 were flat compared to the previous close.
Top listed companies were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($6.7 billion), private lender Garanti ($6.1 billion), and energy company Tupras ($5.6 billion) by market value.
Highest trading volumes were posted by Garanti, iron/steel company Kardemir, and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.
Shares of iron/steel producer Iskenderun Demir Celik were the top gainers -- up 7.83 percent -- as stocks of casting manufacturer Cemas Dokum fell the most, down 3.66 percent.
The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.5050 at close, up from Tuesday's close of 5.4950.
The euro/lira exchange rate increased at close to 6.3150 versus 6.2780 at the previous close.
One British pound traded for 7.0240 Turkish liras, while the GBP/TRY rate was 7.0090 at close on Tuesday.
In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,281.00 by market close, down from $1,283.00 the previous day.
The price of Brent crude oil rose to $60.44 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Wednesday, versus $58.15 at previous close.
