ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed Tuesday at 1,549.53 points, raising by 0.87%.
Starting the day at 1,549.04 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index was up by 13.34 points from Monday’s close of 1,536.19 points.
During the day, the index hovered between 1,537.38 and 1,556.35 points -- 61 stocks on the index rose, 31 fell and two were flat compared to Monday's close.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.1 trillion Turkish liras ($155 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 32.5 billion Turkish liras (nearly $4.34 billion).
The highest trading volumes were posted by glass manufacturer Sisecam, the Industrial Development Bank of Turkey, and gold miner Koza Altin.
Borusan Mannesmann, manufacturer of welded steel and plastic pipes, was the best performer, with its shares up 9.98%, while cement producer Konya Cimento, dropped the most with 8.01%.
One ounce of gold sold for $1,860.60 by market close on Tuesday, up from $1,850.10 at Monday's close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $56.1 per barrel as of 6.00 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Tuesday.
