ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed at 1,390.58 points on Wednesday, up 0.58% from the previous close.
Starting the day at 1,384.57 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index rose 8.00 points from the previous close of 1,382.58 points.
The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,383.97 points, while its daily high was 1,392.84 points.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.04 trillion Turkish liras ($120.6 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 11.56 billion Turkish liras ($1.33 billion).
On the third transaction day of the week, 66 stocks on the index rose, 27 declined, and seven were flat compared to Tuesday's close.
The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and iron and steel producer Kardemir.
Cement producer Konya Cimento was the best performer as its shares went up 6.33%, while stocks of pipe and tube producer Erbosan saw the sharpest drop of 4.59%.
The price of one ounce of gold was $1,803.90 by market close, up from $1,795.50, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $73.10 per barrel as of 6.42 p.m. local time (1542GMT).
