NEW DELHI (AA) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday met with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in India for talks.

The closed-door meeting came ahead of the 18th summit of G-20 leaders, which will be held in the capital New Delhi on Sept. 9-10.

The leaders discussed the bilateral relations between Türkiye and Japan in all dimensions. Also, current regional and international issues concerning both countries were evaluated, according to Türkiye's Communications Directorate.

Türkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, National Intelligence Organization head Ibrahim Kalin, Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, Erdogan's chief advisers Akif Cagatay Kilic and Zafer Cubukcu, and Hasan Dogan, chief of cabinet to the president, were present at the meeting.

Diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Japan began in 1924 and the first Turkish mission in Japan was established in 1925.

Political relations were upgraded to the level of strategic partnership in 2013 and has since kept developing rapidly.
