UPDATE - Turkish stock market closes Thursday higher

BIST 100 gains over 35 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkiye's benchmark stock index Borsa Istanbul was up 1.47% or 35.71 points on Thursday to close at 2,466.26 points.

At Friday's close, the last transaction day before the Eid al-Fitr holiday, the BIST 100 index was slightly up by 0.09% to 2,494.37 points.

Closing the day with a market value of around 2 trillion Turkish liras ($135 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 36.4 billion Turkish liras ($2.5 billion).

During the day’s trading, the index hovered between 2,460.07 and 2,491.55 points – 77 stocks on the index rose and 19 fell, compared to the previous close.

Leasing company Is Finans Kiralama was the best performer with its shares up 9.80%, while shares of Gozde Girisim, a Turkish private equity firm controlled by food giant Ulker, dropped the most – 3.72%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,920.95 by market close, up from $1,918.20 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was up 0.65% to nearly $111 per barrel as of 6.12 p.m. local time (1512GMT).
