ANKARA (AA) -Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Monday down 0.82% to close at 95,191.67 points.
After starting the week at 95,760.29 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index dropped 785.15 points from Friday's close of 95,976.82 points.
Peaking at 96,531.39 points, the BIST 100's daily low was 95,191.67 points during the day -- 29 stocks on the index rose, 59 fell, and 12 were flat compared to the previous close.
Closing Monday with a market value of some 630.3 billion Turkish liras ($109 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 4.5 billion Turkish liras ($770 million).
Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding, private lender Garanti Bankasi, and iron and steel producer Eregli were the top listed companies by market capitalization.
The highest trading volumes were seen in the shares of Garanti Bankasi, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and state-run lender Halkbank.
Stocks of electrical company Gersan (GEREL) were the top gainers -- up 4.95% -- and shares of conglomerate Ihlas Holding (IHLAS) saw the largest decline, going down 4.65%.
One ounce of gold was sold for $1,287.00 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets versus the previous close of $1,293.00.
A barrel of Brent oil was sold for $71.28 as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Monday -- with a day range of $70.79 to $71.57.
At the beginning of 2019, the price of Brent oil was around $53 per barrel.
