ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 117,741.10 points on Tuesday, falling 0.56% from the previous close.
After starting the day at 118,113.75 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index slipped 657.58 points from 118,398.67 points at Monday's close.
The exchange will be closed on Wednesday due to a public holiday, July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.
On Tuesday, the BIST 100 hovered between 117,002.20 and 118,657.56 points – 40 stocks on the index rose, 56 fell, and four were flat compared to the previous close.
Closing the day with a market value of some 856 billion Turkish liras ($124.9 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 23.3 billion Turkish liras ($3.4 billion).
Shares of real estate investment trust Emlak Konut and glass manufacturers Trakya Cam and Sise Cam saw the highest trading volumes.
Stocks of Halk GMYO, a real estate investment trust operating under Halkbank, did the best, rising 9.75%, while shares of Logo, a major software producer, did the worst, losing 5.32%.
One ounce of gold sold for $1,809.00 by market close, up from $1,804.30 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $43.05 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Tuesday, with a day range of $41.8 to $43.12.
At the beginning of this year, a barrel of Brent oil sold for around $58.
