UPDATE - Turkish stocks end Monday 2.54% down

BIST 100 index falls 2,250 points from previous close, USD/TRY exchange rate stands around 6.09

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Monday down 2.54% to close at 86,282.54 points.

After starting the week at 88,628.65 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 2,250.85 points from 88,533.40 points at Friday's close.

Peaking at 88,740.71 points, the BIST 100's daily low was 85,446.61 points during Monday's trading -- 12 stocks on the index rose, 83 fell, and five were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of nearly 573.6 billion Turkish liras ($93.8 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 6.3 billion Turkish liras ($1 billion).

Stocks of national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, prominent lenders Garanti BBVA and Akbank recorded the highest trading volumes on Monday.

Stocks of airline company Pegasus (PGSUS) were the top gainers -- up 3.86% -- as shares of automotive manufacturer Karsan (KARSN) did the worst, falling 12.80%.

One ounce of gold was sold for $1,283.90 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1.288,60 at Friday's close.

The price of Brent oil was $71.39 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Monday -- with a day range of $70.31 to $72.58.
