UPDATE - Turkish stocks end week slightly down

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index slips 7.73 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the week at 1,527.17 points on Friday, going down 0.50% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,544.79 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 7.73 points from 1,534.90 points at Thursday's close.

During Friday's trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 1,527.60 points and 1,549.51 points, with 38 stocks on the index rising, 61 down, and one flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the week with a market value of around 1.15 trillion Turkish liras ($163 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 27.9 billion liras ($3.96 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by gold miner Koza Altin, glass producer Sisecam, and private lender Garanti BBVA.

Stocks of cardboard producer Kartonsan climbed the most with a 9.99% hike, while shares of medicine producer Eczacibasi dropped the most, 6.33%.

One ounce of gold sold for $1,804.00 by market close, down from $1,815.17 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $59.30 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Friday, with a daily range of $54.91 to $56.02.
