ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the day down 0.08% to close at 107,921.68 points on Wednesday.
Starting the day at 108,030.51 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index slipped 89.77 points from 108,011.45 points at Tuesday's close.
During midweek trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 107,464.85 points and 108,218.20 points -- 48 stocks on the index rose, 47 fell, and five remained flat compared to the previous close.
Closing the day with a market value of nearly 737.7 billion Turkish liras ($127.2 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 7.4 billion Turkish liras ($1.3 billion).
By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.66 billion), private lenders Garanti BBVA ($7.47 billion), and Akbank ($6.85 billion) were the top companies on the BIST 100.
Shares of national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, appliances producer Vestel, and petrochemicals producer Petkim posted the highest trading volumes, constituting 22% of the total trading volume.
Shares of Vestel did the best, rising 6.67%, as stocks of major sports club Besiktas did the worst, with a 4.26% drop.
One ounce of gold sold for $1,464.75 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,467.00 at the previous close.
The price of Brent oil was around $64.16 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Wednesday.
