UPDATE - Turkish stocks go down at midweek close

BIST 100 index falls nearly 1,150 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the day down 1.15% to close at 98,692.03 points on Wednesday.

Starting the day at 98,920.86 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 1,146.27 points from 99,838.30 points at Monday's close.

During midweek trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 98,504.47 points and 99,665.74 points -- 27 stocks on the index rose, 67 fell and six remained flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of nearly 668.1 billion Turkish liras ($116 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 6.9 billion Turkish liras ($1.2 billion).

By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding, private lenders Garanti BBVA and Akbank were the top companies of BIST 100.

Shares of national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, leasing company Is Finansal Kiralama, and Garanti BBVA posted the highest trading volumes.

Shares of conglomerate Bera Holding performed the best, rising 19.92%, as stocks of Coca Cola Icecek did the worst with a 4.17% drop.

An ounce of gold was sold for $1,493.00 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,504.80 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil was around $60.88 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Wednesday -- with a day range of $60.62 to $61.55.

The market was closed on Tuesday and after midday on Monday, due to Turkey's National Republic Day on Oct. 29.
