ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the day up 0.93%, hitting its highest closing level of 1,243.00 points on Tuesday.
Starting the day at 1,222.89 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index earned 11.46 points over Monday's close of 1,231.54 points.
On Tuesday, the BIST 100 hovered between 1,218.83 and 1,244.37 points -- 58 stocks on the index rose, 41 fell and one was flat compared to the previous close.
Closing the day with a market value of some 918 billion Turkish liras ($112.3 billion), the benchmark index posted historic high daily trading volume of 31.9 billion Turkish liras ($3.9 billion).
Shares of national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti and air carrier Pegasus saw the highest trading volumes.
Stocks of automotive company Dogus Otomotiv registered the best performance, up 9.95%, while shares of telecommunication company Alcatel Lucent Teletas suffered the most, losing 9.42%.
The price of one ounce of gold was $1,860.00 by market close, down from $1,912.65 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $43.00 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1510GMT) on Tuesday.
