ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Monday down 1.99% to close at 1,078.61 points.
After starting the week at 1,101.78 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index slipped 21.94 points from 1,100.55 points at Friday's close.
On Monday, the BIST 100 hovered between 1,076.07 and 1,102.38 points – 22 stocks on the index rose, 77 fell, and one was flat compared to the previous close.
Closing the day with a market value of some 791.6 billion Turkish liras ($108.4 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 15 billion Turkish liras ($2 billion).
Shares of iron/steel producer Kardemir, real estate investment trust Emlak Konut, and private lender Garanti BBVA saw the highest trading volumes.
Stocks of wholesale trade company Bizim Toptan Satis posted the best performance, rising 5.72%, while shares of automotive company Dogus Otomotiv suffered the most, losing 5.77%.
One ounce of gold sold for $1,966.00 by market close, up from $1,956.05, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent oil was around $46.01 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Monday, with a day range of $45.81 to $46.52.
