ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 118,042.00 points on Tuesday, down 1.04% from the previous close.
After starting the day at 120,170.89 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index slipped 1,238.87 points from 119,280.87 points at Monday's close.
On Tuesday, the BIST 100 hovered between 117,160.45 and 120,585.55 points -- 19 stocks on the index rose and 81 fell compared to the previous close.
Closing the day with a market value of some 861 billion Turkish liras ($125.9 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 24.6 billion Turkish liras ($3.6 billion).
Shares of private lender Garanti BBVA, real estate investment trust Emlak Konut and telecommunication giant Turkcell saw the highest trading volumes.
Stocks of Cement producer Bursa Cimento did the best, rising 9.20%, while shares of frozen foods producer Kerevitas did the worst, losing 6.32%.
One ounce of gold sold for $1,827.60 by market close, up from $1,810.40 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $44.81 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Tuesday, with a day range of $43.19 to $44.88
At the beginning of this year, a barrel of Brent oil sold for around $58.
