Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 rises over 540 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the midweek at 100,159.13 points on Wednesday, up 0.55% from the previous close.

Started the day at 99,649.07, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 543.25 points as of daily close from Tuesday's close of 99,615.88 points.

During Wednesday's trading, the BIST 100's daily low was 99,442.90 points while it peaked at 100,864.92 points -- 47 stocks on the index rose, 47 fell, and six were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of nearly 710 billion Turkish liras ($101.3 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of around 13.3 billion Turkish liras ($1.9 billion).

Shares of defense company Aselsan, private lender Garanti BBVA and iron/steel producer Kardemir recorded the highest trading volumes on Wednesday -- accounting for nearly 24% of the benchmark index's total trade volume.

Stocks of Deva Holding, a pharmaceutical company, showed the best performance -- up 9.99% -- as stocks of real estate investment company Reysas GMYO did the worst with a 3.79% drop.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,658.00 by market close, down from $1,796.50 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $29.50 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Wednesday.
