ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index rose 1.29% to close Monday at 1,492.45 points.
After starting the week at 1,484.95 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 19 points from 1,473.45 points at the previous close.
During the day, the index hovered between 1,471.54 and 1,500.88 points – 73 stocks on the index rose, 26 fell, and one was flat compared to Friday's close.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.12 trillion Turkish liras ($158.5 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 25.9 billion Turkish liras (nearly $3.62 billion).
The highest trading volumes were posted by gold miner Koza Altin, automotive company Karsan, and private lender Garanti BBVA.
Conglomerate Bera Holding was the best performer, with its shares up 9.98%, while stocks of Gubre Fabrikalari, chemical fertilizer producer, dropped the most, 4.62%.
One ounce of gold sold for $1,858.30 by market close on Monday, down from $1,865.20 at Friday's close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $55.60 per barrel as of 6.05 p.m. local time (1505GMT) on Monday.
Additionally, the Turkish lira hit its highest level against the US dollar since August 2020, trading below 7.18 on Monday
