ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkiye's benchmark stock index ended Wednesday at 2,042.70 points, up 1.56% from the previous close.
Starting the day at 2,036.27 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index climbed 31.35 points from Tuesday's close of 2,011.35 points.
The index’s lowest value during the day was 2,031.48 points, while its daily high was 2,054.99.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.6 trillion Turkish liras ($112.5 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 38.56 billion Turkish liras ($2.6 billion).
During the third transaction day of the week, 78 stocks on the index rose, 18 fell, and four were unchanged compared to the previous close.
The highest trading volumes were posted by iron and flag carrier Turkish Airlines, steel producer Kardemir, and polyester producer Sasa.
Sasa was the best performer, with its shares up 9.95%, while stocks of chemical firm Alkim Alkali saw the biggest drop of 3.91%.
The price of an ounce of gold was $2,010 by market close, up from $2,009.5 at the previous close.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $121.5 per barrel as of 6.30 p.m. local time (1530GMT).
