ISTANBUL (AA) - US President Joe Biden congratulated his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his reelection in a phone call Monday.

Biden expressed the hope that the Turkish people would benefit from the election win, said a statement by the Turkish Presidency's Directorate of Communications.

Saying that relations between Türkiye and the US are of "greater importance in the face of regional and global challenges," the two leaders agreed to advance cooperation on all issues.

The White House released a statement about the phone call late Monday, saying the two leaders expressed their shared commitment to continue working together as close partners to deepen cooperation between Türkiye and the US.

Biden and Erdogan also discussed their readiness as NATO Allies to address regional and global challenges, including strengthening transatlantic security at the NATO Summit in Vilnius, Lithuania on July 11-12, said the statement.

Erdogan won Sunday's runoff vote with 52.18%.
