ANKARA (AA) - Uruguay and South Korea played out a goalless draw in their Group H opener at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar on Thursday.
In the 18th minute, Uruguay's Federico Valverde made the first major attempt of the match at the Education City Stadium, but his shot went over the bar.
Darwin Nunez also failed to steer the ball home three minutes later.
South Korean goalkeeper Kim Seung-Gyu saved another important Uruguay attack, which was result of a counter attack in the 26th minute.
In the 43rd minute, Uruguay skipper Diego Godin's header to a corner kick came back from left bottom of the crossbar and the first half ended 0-0.
Nunez's cross attempt from the last line was saved by the Korean goalkeeper, Kim Seung-Gyu, in the 63rd minute.
Nunez missed another good chance as his long shot missed the opposition goal with inches in the 80th minute.
Valverde hit the post again in the 89th minute with a long-range effort.
Just a minute later, Uruguay goalie Rochet made a passing mistake, but Son Heung-min's shot was inches away from the goal.
