US actress Jenna Ortega on Gaza: 'Where is the humanity'

WASHINGTON (AA) - Actress Jenna Ortega denounced the killings of children in Gaza, with a poignant question: "Where is the humanity."

"Masses debating over a ceasefire while thousands upon thousands of children continue being slaughtered," Ortega said on Instagram, along with a picture of a Palestinian family.

Her post came after Israel launched an airstrike Sunday on a camp for displaced people in Rafah that killed at least 45 people, mostly women and children.

The American actress stepped down from her role in “Scream VII” in November after co-star Melissa Barrera was dismissed from the horror franchise because of her comments on social media about Israel and Palestine.

In one Instagram post, Barrera said Gaza was "being treated like a concentration camp."

Israel's nearly eight-month war on Gaza has led to more than 36,000 deaths in the war-torn coastal enclave and has injured over 81,100 additional victims.

Israel's military campaign has turned much of the enclave of 2.3 million people into ruins, leaving most civilians homeless and at risk of famine.

The attack Sunday came despite a ruling by the International Court of Justice last week that ordered Israel to halt its offensive in Rafah where more than 1 million Palestinians had sought refuge from the worsening conflict.
